Sarah’s Pencils from the Garden of Grace

This sculpture is in loving memory of young artist Sarah Grace Stanley (1999-2015) who died at age 15 in a farming accident. From an early age, Sarah loved and was consumed with creating art from items she found her, there, and everywhere. She collected things, and in her “Garden of Grace Series,” Sarah repurposed many items, including colored pencils.
The original Sarah’s Pencils installation was mounted on Minerva’s City Hall and constructed of marine plywood, PVC pipe, and wood. It was created by Bill and Denise Stanley, Aaron Stanley, many of Sarah’s friends, and Marty Chapman over a period of 15 months as a lasting memorial to youth, art, and the memory of a lovely young lady.
The sculpture was rebuilt by ArtsinStark in all metal, and it is currently located on the grounds of Minerva Public Library.
